View a physical component while exploring its digital information: mARterial-Insight connects exhibits with interactive visualization. The mobile, AR-enabled web application makes complex process and inspection data from additive manufacturing accessible through visual exploration.
Making Research and Data Understandable
Our Holographic team developed mARterial-Insight for Germany’s Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) as part of the QI-Digital initiative.
The idea: An exhibit tells only part of its story. Understanding how it was manufactured and examined requires access to the associated data. mARterial-Insight brings this information to the exhibit, helping explain technical relationships.
From a Physical Exhibit to Digital Insights
Visitors begin by scanning a QR code on the exhibit. It connects the physical object with its associated digital content, allowing visitors to engage with the component directly on site.
The exhibit thus becomes the starting point for interactive discovery. Connecting the object with its information provides a concrete reference for explanations and conversations: The component is right in front of the viewer, while digital views offer additional insights.
Exploring Process and Inspection Data Visually
Using a gas turbine blade as an example, the application visualizes different analysis methods, measurements, and data layers. Further information complements the visualization.
Visitors can look beyond the component’s external shape and explore the data behind it. A technical exhibit becomes an opportunity to ask questions about manufacturing and inspection.

Browser Access and Locally Available Content
The application runs in the browser and requires no installation. AR functionality requires a compatible mobile device and a suitable browser.
Content and analysis packages are downloaded as needed and cached locally. Previously loaded content therefore remains available without an internet connection.
mARterial-Insight demonstrates how physical exhibits and digital information can work together to communicate knowledge – with direct access at the object and opportunities for independent exploration.
